Sir David Attenborough said, "Restoring biodiversity on Earth is the only way out of the crisis we have created. And that, in turn, means ‘rewilding’ the world, re-establishing the balance between the human world and the rest of nature, step by step.” At Green Places, we believe natural solutions are a critical component of a climate strategy, and we have a long way to go. Yale professor, Thomas Crowther, estimates that there are over 3 trillion trees on the planet and studies show that humans cut down approximately 15 billion trees each year, while only replanting around 5 billion trees.

Losing 10 billion trees a year is not good, which is why the World Wildlife Foundation released a report stating that it’s more important for us to preserve our current trees, rather than cutting them down and trying to replace them. One hectare of established forests collected 100 metric tons of carbon, a replanted forest only collected around 3 metric tons. This means we have some work cut out for us.

At Green Places we are committed to focus on investing in high impact natural solutions projects that deliver on "additionality." Meaning, measurable, verified, positive climate impact.

We have reached a point where we can no longer ignore how we have hurt nature as a global community. Now, it’s important to act to ensure we can preserve the wildlands we have left.
